So whats new 17/03/2010 16:14
Many of the things we see around us in this age of so called enlightment seem fantastic and original but are they really.
Solomon said that there is nothing new under the sun. God gave him the wisdom to see that and all the things connected to beleiving any different only lead to vanity.
The products of the our finest minds are only poor imatations of what God did first. Not only did he do it first but in every case better.
One interesting fact about flight is that a 747 can only fly for about 10 hours on a tamk of fuel [appox 1/3 of it take off weight]and thats the best it can do. A small bird, the Bar tailed godwit can travel for 8 days non-stop from Alaska to NewZealand without rest or refueling. God 1 humans 0,and thats just the start.
All thing that we dicover and use are there already we only have to become aware of them and to use them for good or evil.
Its easy to think how wonderful these new things are but often they are only used for our own selfishness.
Lets not stop useing new things that God has shown us but give Him the glory.

Some excellent points made, Ali. Thanks for that.

If we think this world is full of amazing creations (which it is), what do the faithful have in store in the next world?!

I like what it says in Romans 1 about the invisible things of the world being clearly made manifest in the visible things. Everything that is miraculous or genius ultimately comes from God. He is the Source of all true inspiration and creativity we have.

I believe that God created each one of us with something special to give, or to do. What may be 'new' may not necessarily have to do with creating something unique, but in becoming a new creation in Christ.

I think when we are motivated by greed and selfishness there is nothing new under the sun, even the things that seem 'new' are just another means to the same end. But, living by faith and forsaking all, though taught and lived by some for over 2000 years, is something very much 'new' especially in these last days, and something that people need to hear. I know when I heard it, it was news to me, i.e. I hadn't heard it before. I think this is the new thing that Solomon, didn't have the wisdom to see.

I agree that everything we have created is only possible because God created it first. We didn't discover flight, we just learnt how to do so on a limited level, and this, only because God had set things up as he did to make flight possible.

Probably a really bad analogy to explain what I mean, would be to say, God made all the Lego, and what we create is only possible because of the Lego, and how He decided it should fit together.

The Lego illustration is excellent when it comes to all the boasting about how mankind, after more than a century of serious and worldwide scientific research is now making some progress in "unlocking the secrets" of those long genetic strands that look like a lot of lego blocks stuck together. It is opening up some exciting doors to what we can do in the medical field, for example, but it's not like anyone created anything. Yet there is some really stupid talk in some circles about "enlightened" people no longer needing a concept of God. How arrogant and deluded can anyone get?
