No Impact Man started his 'zero impact' experiment as a way to make money - he is a journalist, and so it was his project that he was reporting on, HOWEVER, he wasn't just doing it solely for that, he really wanted to make it work, and he continues with his 'experiment' long after the assignment is over (although I think there are plans for a movie - or maybe it's already been made - as well).

I think SOME people gave him (Colin Beaven - No Impact Man) a hard time about his motivation etc. but the fact is, he was actually living what he was talking about. And I think it's the same with this couple, they are at least LIVING some good ideals, and so they should be given credit for that. And I have no doubt that such an experiment will change them forever. Good on 'em!

I think that most of the world does not commit themselves totally to making money. Most people want to do good as well as make money, and so that can influence them to some degree. It is that huge grey area where God must sort through people to work out whether they pass or fail.

Of course, the crossover itself is a fairly finite line, where making money ceases to be the main concern (with ethical choices coming a close second) to where ethical choices become the primary goal, with making money coming second (if at all). I think that we need to push for such changes, but to recognise that little steps out there in the grey have the potential for pushing people over that very difficult line into true idealism.

One of you ozzy JC's should message the couple on facebook and tell them about yourselves, that you lead parallel lives (as far as the rv's and good deeds go). Maybe they'd be interested in meeting up with you and traveling around a few days. Could be an interesting opportunity for both of yous. You could gain a valuable friend and they might learn a thing or two.

Hi Joy, Ross mentioned earlier in the thread that...
They said they wanted to "interview" me about my lifestyle.
I said fine, but asked them what the will happen to the interview afterwards. They did not write back to me after that, so I think they are trying to hide what they are going to do later with all their experiences and the people they meet.

Hey Joy, it's interesting you mention that as Jayme and I recently visited with a couple here in the U.S. who are doing something very similar. They're travelling around in an RV and doing free work for people. They were a really inspiring couple to meet, and they had even done a little forsake all (mainly out of circumstances) but nevertheless we connected on a lot of key points. I think it's amazing that they've chosen to do volunteer work around the country instead of just thinking about how they can 'survive' or 'get ahead'.

These little beakons of light around the world help confirm what's true. Sometimes it's disappointing when you get up close to other groups who are on a similar yet very distinctly different path as our own, because of other key issues that seem to keep us separate. But like Dave was saying above, there is a fair bit of grey that we have to just leave up to God to sort through. I'm sure some people are disappointed when they meet us JCs up close and personal after having watched something like the DVD or read Survivors. Actually, I think you Joy, said something how you were disappointed at our uncleanliness after having read Survivors and thinking we were these very clean and simple living folk! Oh, that was embarrassing...

wha? the cleaning the cupboard thing? i think that was more about my feeling awkward and needing to do something than any real uncleanliness on your guys part. but anyway "disappointed" is definitely something i did not feel with you guys.
